Vidushi Deeksha V Aims for World Record with 216-Hour Bharatanatyam Marathon

Vidhushi Deeksha V has embarked on the journey to etch her name in the Golden Book of World Records

Vidushi Deeksha V, a talented and young artist from Munkinjaddu, Brahmavar, is all set to enter the Golden Book of World Records by performing non-stop Bharatanatyam for 216 hours. This nine-day dance marathon left everyone enthralled and has been titled "Navarasa Deeksha Vaibhavam." It will be held at the Dr G Shankar Women’s College PG Auditorium, Ajjarkad, from August 21 to 30.

At the age of two, Deeksha started learning Bharatanatyam at the age of two, and has been pursuing it with sincerity since she was four. Along with her mastery in Bharatanatyam, she has also trained in Chende, Maddale, Yakshagana, Veena, and painting, showcasing her versatility and talent as a performing artist.

An alumna of Amrutha Bharathi PU College, Little Rock Indian School, and Dr G Shankar Women’s College, Deeksha is pursuing a Bachelor of Education at Dr TMA Pai College of Education, Kunjibettu. Ratna Sanjeeva Kalamandala, Manipal, is supporting her record attempt under the leadership of Mahesh Thakur. She is also being guided by former Udupi MLA K Raghupathi Bhat.

On August 21 at 2 PM, the program will be inaugurated, and the performance will start on the same day at 3:30 PM. With a valedictory function on August 30, it will culminate. During a press conference that was attended by Vidwan Sridhar Rao, Ashwini Mahesh Thakur, and Vidushi Usha Hebbar, the announcement was made.

Addressing mediapersons on August 17, Deeksha said, “Initially, I was unsure of what to do, but my teacher advised me to first complete Vidwath and then pursue this goal. Later, when Vidwan Yashwanth M G set a world record by singing for 24 hours, I was inspired to attempt one myself. With his guidance, I applied online. During my Vidwath preparation, I practiced extensively, took nutritional advice, and followed a healthy diet. My teacher, Vidwan Sridhar Rao, has been a great support. This is my first major achievement in Bharatanatyam. I will be performing as per the Marga Paddhati, and as per the rules, I will take a 15-minute break every three hours.”
