Recognizing the music tourism’s growing potential, over ₹4,000 crore has been invested in infrastructure development by the Meghalaya government. Shillong is now an important stop for the NH7 Weekender, one of the biggest music festivals in India. Its inclusion has led to the emergence of a diverse mix of artists and genres, enriching the musical experience for both visitors and residents.

Shillong has further come into the spotlight with the rise of local talent. The Shillong Chamber Choir, which was founded by the late Neil Nongkynrih, achieved fame nationwide after winning “India’s Got Talent” in the year 2010. Their perfect blend of Western and Indian classical music showcased the musical versatility of the city.
