BookMyShow Outpaces Rivals with Rs.108.6Cr Profit in FY24

BookMyShow recently posted a robust financial performance in FY24, reporting a net profit of ?108.6 crore

BookMyShow, an Online ticketing giant reported about its stellar financial performance in FY24. The platform reported a net profit of ₹108.6 crore, which in comparison to FY23 is up 27.6% from ₹85.1 crore. The growth of the company was underpinned by around 43.2% increase in operating revenue, which during the fiscal year soared to ₹1,396.8 crore.

This outstanding growth was driven across its core business segments by robust performance. Online ticketing, the flagship vertical of BookMyShow, contributed ₹740.7 crore, which reflects a 20.6% year-on-year increase. Even stronger growth was demonstrated by the live events segment, with revenue nearly doubling from ₹237.5 crore in FY23 to ₹454.7 crore.

To maintain market leadership and sustain its expansion, the total expenses of BookMyShow rose to ₹1,319.8 crore by 40.3%. Key spending areas included promotions and advertising (₹78.9 crores, +47.5%), production costs (₹233.5 crores, +95%), employee benefits (₹170.7 crores, +24%) and artist fees (₹211.3 crore, +103.3%). Irrespective of these increased costs, the ability of the company is to balance profitability with investments highlighting its operational efficiency.

Ashish Hemrajani, Rajesh Balpande, and Parikshit Dhar founded BookMyShow in 1999. Its ticketing platform was launched in 2007 and since then it has become a market leader. However, players like Zomato who have entered the live events and ticketing space through its acquisition of Insider have heated up the competition.

Earlier this year, BookMyShow also faced public scrutiny during Coldplay concert’s controversial ticket sale. After tickets sold out just within a few hours and reappeared at exorbitant prices on resale platforms, an FIR was filed by the company denying any involvement with resellers. Mumbai Police is still investigating the incident.

Looking ahead, BookMyShow is expected to grow even more. Reports suggest KKR global investment firm is in talks for a minority stake to invest ₹250-300 crore, potentially valuing the company at around ₹7,500 crore ($885 million). This underscores confidence in the prospects of the company.

As BookMyShow navigates public challenges and growing competition, its FY24 strategic investments and results signal a bright future for the live events leader and online ticketing.
