Playback singer Arijit Singh has made a comeback to playback singing, months after announcing his retirement. His comeback comes with "Yeh Awarapan", the first single from Awarapan 2, the upcoming film which has now been released across all major music streaming platforms. The song marks the first playback recording of Arijit since stepping away in January from film music, making it one of the most highly anticipated releases of 2026.

Written by Rashmi Virag and composed by Amaal Malik, "Yeh Awarapan" serves as the film’s centrepiece. According to Pinkvilla’s report, filmmaker-producer Vishesh Bhatt envisioned the track as an important narrative element that captures the protagonist, Shivam Pandit’s emotional journey. The report states that Bhatt shaped the soundtrack of the film carefully to become an important part of the storytelling, with the voice of Arijit Singh chosen to convey the vulnerability and emotional intensity of the song.

In the long-standing creative, the release marks another milestone showcasing partnership between Vishesh Films and Arijit Singh, a partnership that has delivered some of the most memorable songs of Bollywood over the past decade. Their association started with "Phir Mohabbat" from Murder 2. The partnership was later cemented through iconic tracks which include "Tum Hi Ho" from Aashiqui 2,  the title tracks of Khamoshiyan and Hamari Adhuri Kahani, "Muskurane" from CityLights and "Pal" from Jalebi.

With "Yeh Awarapan," Arijit makes a comeback to the genre that helped define modern Bollywood music. The release has generated immense excitement among fans, many of whom have welcomed the comeback of the singer after months away from playback recording.
