Limp Bizkit, Gorillaz and Foo Fighters: Nine Days, Three India Debuts and a Millennial Dream
There was a time when seeing these bands live meant leaving the country. In January, Mumbai gets three of them across nine days.
For a generation that grew up on music television channels, burned CDs, MP3 players and eventually YouTube, some artists never really left the rotation. Now, three of those names are finally making their way to India, and Mumbai is getting all three across a nine-day stretch.
January 2027 will see Limp Bizkit, Gorillaz and Foo Fighters arrive in Mumbai, each representing a very different chapter of the international music landscape that shaped the late 1990s, 2000s and beyond. For fans who have spent years watching these bands tour everywhere but India, the wait is finally coming to an end.
It begins on January 23, when Limp Bizkit headline the opening day of Lollapalooza India at Mahalaxmi Racecourse. The American nu-metal band has been part of the soundtrack of the late 1990s and 2000s, with tracks such as “Nookie,” “Break Stuff” and “Rollin’” becoming defining songs of the era. Nearly three decades into their career, the band will finally play India. Their arrival also closes a particularly long chapter, with Limp Bizkit having previously been announced for the cancelled Fly Music Festival in 2013.
Four days later, Gorillaz arrive in Mumbai on January 27 as part of The Mountain Tour. Their first-ever Indian performances come with an unusually direct connection to the country. Their latest album, The Mountain, involved recording and creative work in India and features collaborations with several Indian musicians, including Asha Bhosle, Asha Puthli, Anoushka Shankar, Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash and Ajay Prasanna.
Then comes Foo Fighters on January 31 at Mahalaxmi Racecourse. After more than three decades as a band, Dave Grohl and company will finally perform in India, with Bengaluru hosting the first show on January 29 before the Mumbai date two days later. It marks the band's first-ever performances in the country.
What makes these dates interesting is not simply the size of the names, but what they represent. Limp Bizkit, Gorillaz and Foo Fighters arrived during a time when discovering music still felt like an event. You waited for a video on MTV, bought or borrowed an album, burned a CD for someone, downloaded tracks onto an MP3 player, and eventually moved to YouTube, blogs, forums and streaming. Somewhere along the way, their songs became part of the soundtrack of growing up.
And India never got to see them live. That is what makes January 2027 different. Three bands that have been familiar to Indian listeners for decades are finally playing here, giving fans the chance to experience their music beyond the playlist. Limp Bizkit brings the raw energy of nu-metal, Gorillaz brings its ever-changing mix of animation, alternative, hip-hop and electronic music, while Foo Fighters brings more than three decades of arena rock.
Three very different bands, three very different live experiences, and three India debuts landing across nine days in Mumbai. For years, seeing these names live meant travelling abroad, waiting for an India announcement, or simply accepting that some artists might remain part of the soundtrack without ever making it to the concert calendar.
In January, that gap finally closes. January 2027 could be the closest Mumbai has come to turning a millennial playlist into a live music calendar.
